Paul L. McCarthy, M.D.
Dr. McCarthy studies clinical judgment in acute illness, particularly fever without cause. He continues to study observational assessment of children with acute illnesses and children with chronic illnesses.

John M. Leventhal, M.D.
Dr. Leventhal's ongoing research focuses on the epidemiology of child maltreatment, distinguishing abusive from accidental injuries, and the effectiveness of child abuse prevention programs. He collaborates with Yale Nursing School colleagues on models of care to prevent adolescent pregnancy and with Dr. Ilgi Ertem at Ankara University on a grant to develop the research infrastructure to conduct studies on developmental issues in young children in developing countries. Dr. Leventhal is Editor-in-Chief, Child Abuse & Neglect The International Journal and Associate Editor, Clinical Child Psychology and Psychiatry. His clinical work in child abuse and sexual abuse is extensively funded by Connecticut state family and judicial agencies.

Eugene Shapiro, M.D.
Dr. Shapiro's long-term research involves Lyme disease and the use of vaccines in clinical practice. He studies the long-term outcome of children with Lyme disease; the long-term effectiveness of vaccines in clinical practice; and the risk and predictors of intractable epilepsy. He is Deputy Director of the Investigative Medicine Program.

Eve Colson, M.D.
As Director of the Well-Born Baby Nursery, Dr. Colson continues her work in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and with smoking cessation intervention in the perinatal period. She has written commentaries on care of the newborn. She is Director of the Pediatrics Medical Student Clerkship, where she works to enhance medical student education in Pediatrics.

Brian Forsyth, M.B., Ch.B.
As Program Director of the Adopt-A-Doc Program, Dr. Forsyth is implementing and enhancing methods to teach interns and residents about community pediatrics. As Director of International Child Health, Dr. Forsyth is an investigator on the multidisciplinary program "Training in HIV Prevention & Care Research in South Africa", which is funded by International Clinical, Operational, and Health Services Research and Training Award of the NIH/Fogarty International Center. Dr. Forsyth also studies implementation of rapid HIV testing in pregnancy and labor in Connecticut hospitals.

Richard Shiffman, M.D., M.C.I.S.
Dr. Shiffman is developing child health information systems to meet medical care and public health needs. Dr. Shiffman is creating assessment and treatment guidelines, evaluating quality of care where practice guidelines are used, and implementing the Electronic Medical Record. He mentors six Informatics Fellows within the Department. Dr. Shiffman is using a guideline-centered approach for the design of a clinical decision support system to promote smoking cessation. Recent funding from HHS/Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality will permit the creation and implementation of Electronic Medical Records to improve care for children with asthma.

Carol Weitzman, M.D.
Dr. Weitzman is assessing the developmental dimensions of international adoption and is reporting on assessments of the Reach Out and Read Program. She is the Director of the training program in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, funded by the HHS/Maternal and Child Health Bureau. Her research focuses on developing preventative mental health services for internationally adopted children, and educating new parents about their new internationally adopted children. She works with the Adopt-A-Doc program, which places residents within the homes of patients in specific, underserved neighborhoods within Greater New Haven. Dr. Weitzman is Director of the Yale International Adoption Clinic.

Marietta Vazquez, M.D.
Dr. Vazquez's research focuses on the effectiveness of licensed vaccines, in particular, the varicella vaccine. She studies outcomes in children with Lyme disease. She also researches the clinical and molecular epidemiology of respiratory viruses in children.

Ada Minsky Fenick, M.D.
Dr. Fenick studies obesity in children and participates in resident education.

Marjorie Rosenthal, M.D., M.P.H. studies developmental and behavioral pediatrics.

Andrea Asnes, M.D., M.S.W. researches child maltreatment.
