Hematology/Oncology

Pediatric Hematology and Oncology faculty treats childhood cancer and blood disorders, providing the best patient care, developing and implementing the latest advances in diagnosis and treatment, and educating patients, families and future Pediatric Hematologists/Oncologists. Since 1987, we have been directly involved in the advancement of care through multi-institutional cooperative group clinical trials through the Children's Oncology Group (COG). A multidisciplinary team of physicians in pediatrics, laboratory medicine, surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, pathology, therapeutic radiology and diagnostic radiology work together on a case-by-case basis to treat each child:

Malignant tumors, including:
  Solid tumors, Wilms' Neuroblastoma Rhabdomyosarcoma
Brain tumors
Bone Tumors (Osteosarcoma & Ewing's Sarcoma)
Leukemia
Lymphoma (Hodgkin's Disease & Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma)
Hemoglobinopathies
  Sickle Cell Anemia
Thalassemia
Hemophilia
Coagulation Abnormalities for those with Vascular Anomalies
Platelet Disorders
Thrombophilia - congenital or acquired excessive clotting
Thromboembolic Disease
  Clotting, including arterial, venous thromboses and pulmonary embolism

We see patients at the Pediatric Specialty Centers at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital (Map and Directions). Some faculty staff clinics at Bridgeport Hospital as well. (Map and Directions)

Our research is oriented toward improving the lives of children with blood disorders and childhood cancer, while working toward future improved treatments and outcomes.

We train medical students, residents and offer a post-doctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
